At the start of the December meeting Burbage Gardening Club member Derek Swallow gave a brief ten minute presentation on The Silver Line. This is a helpline that was set up by Esther Rantzen in 2012. The aim of this is to bring friendship and help into the lives of lonely elderly members of the community. Derek told us how he became involved and the help that he is able to give. Derek will give a more detailed presentation at the AGM to be held in March 2018. Here he will be able to give more information on the work of the charity and that of the volunteers. Following this presentation it was agreed that The Silver Line will be adopted by the Gardening Club as its 2018 charity.
Attendees then took part in a Domino Drive which was run for the club by member Harry Meigh. The evening was well supported and members enjoyed mince pies supplied by the Constitutional Club.
The winner of the evening with the lowest score was Trevor Alcoat and the person with the highest score was Denise Kovarovic, who also received a prize.
Harry was presented with a bottle of wine and many thanks for his efforts.
